Timberlake's Visit

Yesterday we visited Fort Loudoun for the 250th Anniversary of Henry Timberlake’s Visit to the Cherokee.

There was a reenactment of the visit. We all liked hearing the Cherokee language.

The women brought food to the men after they had all agreed to be "brothers." It was really hot out, and that watermelon sure looked good.

Afterward, we listened to a cartographer tell about his trade.

Etsy Update

After months of not spinning, I finally have some new yarns in the Etsy shop. I have also relisted the old yarns , and they are now on sale for 10% - 30% off. My sister-in-law has kept the shop going with her sweet ceramics and owls. She also has some beautiful new wedding items. Miah has some of her jewelry in the shop for the first time. Go have a visit!

Bells for Baby

Yesterday I made Elowen some bells to play with. They are simply sewn on to ribbons and attached to the table with velcro. I gave her two bells, one for each hand. The wide, brightly-colored ribbon catches her attention. It's fun to watch her concentrate on getting that little fist in the right spot to make the bell ring. When she gets overwhelmed with the effort, she smiles up at the blank, sky-blue ceiling for a while. This occupied Elowen's mind enough that it bought me some time to get some things done. I call that a success.

Pool Fun

We've been enjoying summer fun at a friend's pool.

Miah and Larkin learned to swim in this pool last summer.

Zahana's a little daredevil, as usual. She's not quite swimming yet, but she's close.

Rohan hung out on the steps the last couple of times, but yesterday he got a little braver and inched around the edge of the shallow end.

Elowen practiced her sumo moves in her sleep while the other kids swam.
