Larkin's chicken, Schweitzer, was found to be a rooster. Larkin wanted to take a few pictures before Schweitzer went to his new home.

This is Zahana's chicken, Sonna. That's how she pronounces her own name, so she named the chicken after herself.

  2. Wow Sarah...your chicken house puts ours to shame! Ours was hastily put together last year with plywood that wasn't rain-proofed, and sure enough it has warped to extremes and is now barely staying together!

Love your photographs, thank you for sharing your week!

p.s. I will be doing a post on some basic Irish language phrases this week, complete with pronunciation guide...thought you may be interested!

  5. Your veil braids look wonderful on Zahana--and I love the different colors. Did the bands not break?? I like the twists too--they are so cute on her.

Looks like the chickens have provided you with lots of summer projects! :)

  6. Thanks Shonya! I get a pack of plastic bands from Wal-mart with three sizes. The first time I did the veil braids, I used some of the small bands and they broke pretty quickly. This time I used the big bands for each one, and so far so good. I made some of them too tight though. When she was laying on my lap after I put them in, I noticed sort of a bubble under her skin next to one of bands! I loosened it, and it looks OK now, but next time I'll be more careful to not make them so tight.
