Vittles For Littles: Nature's "Candy" Necklace

Today we made necklaces out of fruit - kind of like the candy necklaces but good for you. I thought it might be too hard for the little ones, but it wasn't. They really enjoyed making and eating their necklaces. This idea came from Rawdorable.

To make the necklaces, you need string, a needle (a nice big one for little fingers to control better), and some fruit. We used grapes and dried mango pieces. They weren't too messy, held up well, and were easy to work with.

To start, thread your needle.

String and tie a grape onto the end of the string. Leave a tail so you have something to tie for the necklace (the loop isn't necessary.)

Start stringing.

Whenever you're ready, tie the two ends of the string together, put on your necklace, and eat up!

  6. Oh, how the eyes speak...

What a great idea...not only healthier, but way easier to eat. Did you ever wrestle with a candy necklace when you were younger? A triple whammy, those things - 1. unhealthy (who knows what the ingredients were) 2. hard on the teeth (I'm sure someone out there chipped a tooth on those bad boys) 3. ever snapped in the face trying by the elastic string trying to eat one of the "beads"? Took the joy right out of all that sugar/artificial color! :)

    Sending happy thoughts your way...
