Winter Nature Study

"Every child should have mud pies, grasshoppers, water bugs, tadpoles, frogs, mud turtles, elderberries, wild strawberries, acorns, chestnuts, trees to climb, brooks to wade, water lilies, woodchucks, bats, bees, butterflies, various animals to pet, hayfields, pinecones, rocks to roll, sand, snakes, huckleberries, and hornets; and any child who has been deprived of these has been deprived of the best part of education." - Luther Burbank
Let it not be said that I deprived my children of the best part of education. They were educated well today. Since the weather was once again delightful, we took the opportunity to go to the mountains and enjoy the beauty of life in winter, the smell of the forest, and the taste of freedom. And although the delicious nature of spring and summer were not out today, we did enjoy trees to climb, brooks to splash in, hayfields, pinecones, moss, sticks, rocks to collect (or eat, in Rohan's case), sand, birds, deer, mountains, and squirrels.
